Liz Berry is an award-winning poet and author of the collections Black Country; The Republic of Motherhood; The Dereliction and The Home Child. Her poems, rooted in the landscape and language of her native West Midlands, have received the Somerset Maugham Award, Geoffrey Faber Memorial Prize and Forward Prizes. In her latest book, The Home Child (Chatto, 2023)Liz reimagines the story of her great-aunt Eliza Showell, one of the many children forcibly emigrated to Canada as part of the British Child Migrant schemes. The Home Child has been adapted for BBC Radio 4 and was a ‘Pick of the Week’ for The Guardian, The Times, The Radio Times and The Telegraph.
